Deep sea in outer space?

I was watching a documentary on deep sea creatures. I love watching documentaries, more if it's animal related. I find the deep sea creatures so blizzard that they honestly do not look like they belong in this planet. The fishes down below are just created? designed? evolved? as if they were aliens. One day I was thinking about what should I create as a mini series and it clicked me, I should do deep sea creatures. Now, when I think of an idea and produce the final result. There are several changes that occur. Originally, I was just going to do deep sea creatures but I often ask myself why am I creating this? It something I found that is extremely important and I always ask my students. If you cannot answer that question with a clear answer then your idea is not thought out through. Why do I want to draw deep sea creatures? They look like aliens. You find aliens in space. So I started to do some research on outer space and well...it actually quite scary, fascinating but scary. So I started to connect the amazing discoveries I learned from space and creatures I believe fit their theme. The fishes themselves also had to look "alien-ish".

So I present to you the Goblin Shark. Never seen one before? Look them up...they are ugly but wow. Upon seeing a photo of one my first though was...this thing looks aggressive. Then I learned about galactic cannibalism and that blew my mind away. So the first image was created for the series. I wanted to try out tone paper (never done it before) and I loved it. I used copic and prismacolor markers. I was about to get the various grey tones I needed but you can see in my background it has a blue-ish tint. I needed to create contrast and a flat black or dark grey wasn't going to look that great. A tip: when using grey and black, mix them with blues so they aren't flat/dull. You will see the difference. I used micro pens to create the dots...and there are so many dots...... I used a white paint pen for the white dots. I have the shark consuming one of the galaxies. It's shark is dissolving into the galaxy as well. in the background I included the bony fishes. The background is broken up in several perspective. On the top left you see the fishes going up while towards the edge of the paper, however, at the bottom you see them as if you are above them. I wanted the overall look to feel comic-ish as if this was from a horror story. Overall, I am quite please with the work. I kept getting a lot of good feedback and evenly I sold it. Oh the dots........
